Is Mmusi Maimane really joining the ANC? Is it an April Fools’ joke?
Mmusi has announced that he is returning to the African National Congress (ANC) and would run for deputy president at the party’s forthcoming congress in December 2022.
The former DA politician revealed the news on his verified Facebook page, and many of his fans and followers are still questioning if he is playing practical jokes on them.

In a post on Facebook, Maimane said that Ramaphosa is South Africa’s greatest chance and that he will put all of his political energy and resources behind ensuring that the current president is re-elected.
He wrote, “I have some important news to share! After a substantial time of reflection and introspection, Mmusi Maimane wishes to today announce that he is returning home to the ANC, and will be running for the position of deputy president at the party’s upcoming conference in December 2022.
“After dabbling in neoliberalism and progressivism for over a decade, Maimane has returned to his African nationalism roots and wants to now mount a serious challenge for the role in the coming months. Asked about running as Cyril Ramaphosa’s deputy, Maimane said Ramaphosa is the best hope South Africa has, and he will rally all his political will and resources behind ensuring the sitting president gets a second term.”
The post was posted earlier this morning, Maimane hasn’t posted anything further or done any interviews to confirm this statement.
