Kaya Drive with Sizwe Dhlomo fielded reactions from listeners over the City of Tshwane’s service delivery. Amid ongoing strike action by the municipalities workers, frustrated residents have gone 5 days without electricity.
With no end in sight, residents said the strike cannot be blamed for a lack of services as the past week is not an isolated incident.
Parts of Tshwane have been without electricity for 9 days, without any contingency plans in place to restore power to the affected areas.
A resident from Laudium said there have been numerous issues with service interruptions, with both water and electricity problems.
One listener shared that Tshwane was once run smoothly under the previous administration.
“There was a period in time when the city was actually run quite smoothly, contrary to popular belief Tshwane didn’t have these issues before the DA elected mayor. In 2010 when Kgosientso Ramokgopa was in office, the city was run smoothly, even when Solly Msimanga was in office.”

Listen to the conversation on Kaya Drive:
City of Tshwane Mayor, Randall Williams apologised to residents for the service delivery disruptions. The city has issued notices of termination to striking employees in an effort to end the week-long strike.
I want to apologise to residents for the service delivery disruptions that you’ve faced as a result of this illegal strike. I’d also like to assure you that the vast majority of Tshwane officials are doing their utmost to ensure that the business of the city proceeds as normal. https://t.co/2Nv8fateJb
