Businessman Edwin Sodi has handed himself over to police after allegedly assaulting his estranged wife and her friend.
Charges of assault and pointing a firearm were laid against Sodi after a dispute on Thursday last week.
According to reports, Sodi handed himself over to the Sandton Police Station on Monday, 14 March.
This after police were looking to apprehend him following the case that was opened by his estranged wife, Nthateng Lerata.
It is alleged Edwin Sodi entered the couple’s Bryanston home with a firearm. There he confronted Lerata and her male friend.
During the confrontation, Sodi reportedly tried to fire the gun but it jammed.
He is accused of using the firearm to assault Lerata’s friend who received several stitches to his head.
Sodi then fled the scene to get to his other property in Redhill, Sandton.
Edwin Sodi is implicated in the R255 million asbestos project.
The owner of Blackhead Consulting is currently out on R500 000 bail.
He was arrested in 2020 for corruption, racketeering and money laundering, in relation to his company securing the asbestos deal.
In 2014, two companies were awarded the tender to manage the asbestos project in the Free State. The project would entail assessing 300 000 low-cost houses for asbestos in the roofs.
However, it was later discovered that no assessments were done, despite the money being paid to the companies.
