Operation Dudula started in Soweto last year and spread into inner Joburg. Last week we saw locals in Alex target foreign nationals.
This past Saturday community members in Daveyton, some carrying South African flags, gathered ahead of what is believed to have been Operation Dudula demonstrations.
Like with all other operations, the one in Daveyton was also about rooting out illegal foreign nationals.
Thomas and Skhumba ask Kaya 959 listeners what their views are on operation Dudula:
“Hurt people hurt people. Number one thing is, this thing is nonexistent. We are taking out our anger on the wrong people. Our brothers are the ones who let them in at the borders,” expresses a listener.
Jackson from Orlando says our security and borders are a mess. “We are trying to fix what our government tried to do but is it the right way? The corruption is SA is very big. It did not start with operation Dudula, I noticed this in Potch, you’ll see the very same thing. And in Klerksdorp, the taxi drivers were doing the same thing.
“You’ll notice in white town people are protecting themselves. We need to talk about this issue,” he shares.
A frustrated listener says, “I feel like it’s taking place more in the township because we are feeling invaded. I feel like it’s more of a frustration but I’m not saying that it is okay.
“Let’s go to home affairs. Let’s go to people who are responsible for the flow. Let’s stop fighting each other and people responsible are sitting in their offices drinking tea.”
What people are saying on social media:
@KayaON959 I’m for operation dudula cause it’s dudularing illegal foreigners not foreigners. Everyone in the country must be documented cause nathi ama South Africans can’t go to other African countries without being documented. #thomasandskhumba

Personally i feel the dudula anger is directed at the wrong people. SA is not special when it comes to illegal foreigners, even Europe and the USA do but citizens don't take it upon themselves. Our problems is corruption and ineffective leadership. #thomasandskhumba
