Eskom suspends loadshedding as the generation capacity sufficiently recovered on Sunday night.
The power utility thanked the public for their patience during loadshedding over the past week.
“We would like to thank the people of South Africa for their support and patience during the period of load shedding. Eskom takes its mandate of supplying electricity to South Africa seriously and is fully aware of the impact load shedding is having on the whole country. Unfortunately, at times, it becomes necessary to implement load shedding,” said the company in a statement.
Four generation units were returned to service on Friday, enabling emergency generation reserves to recover significantly.
In addition Eskom plans on returning 8 more units to service by Wednesday evening.
South Africans are urged to use electricity sparingly because the system will still remain constrained on Monday and Tuesday.
Rolling blackouts were implemented on Monday, with Eskom moving to Stage 4 loadshedding in the week.
The power utility said total breakdowns decreased to 12 422MW on Sunday, while planned maintenance took 6 540MW of capacity.
