Plans to integrate Zola 7 into the Department of Sports, Arts, Culture and Recreation’s programmes are underway.
This after Gauteng MEC Mbali Hlophe paid the ailing SA kwaito star a visit at his home on Friday.
The artist made headlines last week after video and images of him looking frail circulated, creating public concern about his health and wellness.
Additionally, the state of his financial affairs were also highlighted and there was a mass public outcry to help Bonginkosi ‘Zola 7’ Dlamini.
After a crowdfunding initiative was launched in his name, the department decided to step in to see how the artist could get back on his feet.
Zola 7 was diagnosed with epilepsy in 2018 and since then has been in desperate need of financial assistance to cover his mounting medical bills.
Determined to not let his condition affect his career, Zola 7 still wants to work and does not want to rely on the goodwill of the South African people.
Zola 7 relayed some of the financial burdens he is faced with to the Gauteng MEC. The department vows to integrate Zola into its programmes.
One of the ways is for Zola to use his voice to highlight issues such as depression, substance abuse, and financial management.
The department plans to make use of Zola at schools to address the youth, something the star is passionate about.
Since news of his financial despair was brought to light, many South African celebrities have come forward to help.
Shawn Mkhize and son, Royal AM boss Andile Mpisane, became one of the first local celebrities to reach out to him and offer a helping hand.
There have also been offers of free transportation for Zola and his family as he is unable to drive with his condition.
