This morning on My Top 10 at 10, Tbose caught up with talented singer/songwriter Maleh.
The Afro-Pop star chats to Tbose about why she took so long to release new music and her much-awaited new offering Lerato Laka.
“2017 was the last time I was in Johannesburg and pushing everything music-related as an artist. A lot happened on a personal front – walls came crashing down. Those are the things you don’t plan and I think that was just the begging,” she tells Tbose.
With this particular album, Maleh needed to pick herself up again, and that takes time.
“I think you can hear in the music. I’ve had a lot to share regarding where I’ve been and it comes through in a lot of the songs as well.
“I needed to find my voice again the sense that being quiet for so long you start to wonder as an artist if people really care that you are gone. What is the next story around the music that I want to release?’
She also had to be confident about her sound as a lot has changed since her last release.
“Another thing was the type of sound because I think a lot has changed since I released in terms of what is relevant soundwise.I really wanted to come back with something that sounds fresh.”
