It’s not all in your head. Cold-drinks don’t taste the same. This is because soft-drink companies are always switching up the formula for their fizzy drinks.
In particular, Coca-Cola has changed its formula of Coke Zero in August last year.
The global brand last changed it’s iconic cold-drink in 1985. To offer a better option to consumers who want sugar-free options, Coca-Cola refreshed its recipe yet again.
As mentioned on Kaya Drive, an increase in the sugar-tax is another factor that most fizzy drinks don’t taste the same as a few years ago.

Sizwe Dhlomo prefers to drink his Coca-Cola flat and cold. According to Siz, it just tastes better than when it’s still fizzy.
“It’s almost like the bubbles affect the taste of Coke,” he shared.
Listeners also shared that some of their favourite cold-drinks no longer taste the same.
“At some point you were able to smell Stoney before you taste the strong ginger infused drink.”
Usually before brands change the formulas of their products, surveys are done with consumers.
One half of the group are given the new and “improved” version and the other, the unchanged product.
This is so brands can tell if people can identify the difference or not.
The new version of Coke Zero is slowly being phased in, the question is, will you be able to tell it apart from the brands predecessor?
