The Electoral Commission of South Africa (IEC) has released a report indicating who some of the biggest donors were ahead of the November 1st, 2021, Local Government election.
The latest report reveals that Patrice Motsepe was one of the largest donors to political parties in the third quarter of the 2021/22 financial year.
Companies owned by Motsepe which are Harmony Gold and African Rainbow Minerals, contributed a combined R13,454,209 million to 5 different political parties in October.

The Multiparty Fund had its strongest quarter as Vodacom donated R5m. Ivan Pillay donated R5 000. It’s cumulative contributions are now R5 007 000.

The political parties include the ANC, DA, EFF, IFP and as well as the Freedom Front Plus.
The quarterly report comes at the back of new regulations put in place called the Political Funding Act
In the new Act, all parties are mandated to declare all donations above R100,000 to the IEC.
