Do we actually understand the meaning of RSVP? How many times have you hosted an event and had to chase people around trying to figure out if they’ll be attending or not? It’s clear we don’t understand why it’s important to RSVP.
Planning an event while you are not sure about the number of people coming can be frustrating.
Sending an RSVP isn’t just a formality, but helps the host to plan properly. For example, they’ll know how many people to cater for and avoid food running out.
Lizzy, who’s planning her 40th birthday celebration is experiencing the same problem. She tells Tbose that she’s sent out an invite and no one has RSVP’d yet which makes it difficult for her to plan.
Fifi says people don’t RSVP because they feel entitled. Because they know you personally, they see no need to confirm their attendance – you’ll cater for them regardless.
A listener on social media says she and her partner were invited to a wedding and it was made clear that they can’t bring other people for catering reasons. To their surprise, other couples came with their friends. They brought camp chairs in case there was not enough space.
