A minibus transporting children crashed in Mpumalanga on Wednesday, claiming the lives of 8 children, injuring 10 others.
The crash occured between Mayflower and Dundonald on the D267 after the vehicle overturned.
In a statement, Transport Minister Fikile Mbalula said an investigation into the cause of the crash is underway.
The minister extended his condolences to the families of the 8 children.
Law enforcement authorities say a Quantam transporting 18 scholars lost control and crashed.
Mbalula recently spoke at the Parliament Portfolio Committee on Transport about the carnage on SA roads.
“It is a shared call by members across the political spectrum for safer roads and responsible driving. These calls emanate from road crashes like these that leave us heartbroken and in disbelief,” Mbalula shared.
The children were being transported back home when the crash occured.
