A new survey by BrandMapp, the country’s largest, most comprehensive survey of middle-income South Africans has released new data that says 75% of South African middle-class are mostly healthy.
The company did a survey that gave a glimpse of COVID-era routines of South Africans living in households with a R10 000+ monthly income.
The survey found that at the beginning of 2021, 26% of adults said they were ‘interested in gym’ with just 19% actually taking part.
Brandon de Kock, BrandMapp Director recently joined Gugulethu Mfuphi to share some of the data the new report has discovered.

He said that middle-class people in South Africa are continually choosing healthier options when it comes to their lifestyle.
“The number will lend upon is 75%, that means 75% of middle class South African which is our definition of people who live in R10K plus households.”
“This is about 20-30% of the country’s population, these are fairly privileged people who can make choices about exercise. It’s been on the rise and has roughly been about the same in the last five years.”
“The fact of the matter is there’s about 25% of people who find it hard to get off the couch. “
Kaya Biz also did a poll with Kaya 959 listeners who shared their thoughts about exercising and healthy living.
