Singles who are looking to date, may want to consider ditching the dating apps and adopting a dog. This after a survey notes that owning a pet makes you more attractive.
Almost 72% of millenials find pet owners tick a number of boxes when it comes to their ideal match. This can be attributed to pet owners, particularly those who own dogs to being more nurturing, approachable and empathetic.
The odds of a man who owns a dog being viewed as “a catch” are higher than single men who do not have a pet.
Even on dating apps, singles are more likely to swipe right for a match if the profile includes pictures of a pet/s.
What makes you more attractive as a pet owner?
- You come across as more trustworthy
- You’re seen as more committed
- People view you as being capable of nurturing and caring
- You’re ranked as happier, safer and more relaxed
Women tend to view men who own a dog as someone they would like to get into a long-term relationship with.
Men who own a dog are considered to be more capable as a parent and partner. Owning a pet requires an individual to be responsible.
One has to get home in time to make sure the animal is fed, walked, cared for and nurtured. It requires a schedule and routine, almost like a child requires. This is the bottom line when a woman is assessing a potential partner.
Many singles are looking for an equal partner to share responsibilities with.
What’s more is that the type of pet someone owns can say a lot about someone’s personality. Bigger dogs, require more space, activities and time in order to maintain their health. Owners will also have to spend a fair deal of money to groom and cater to their pet’s needs.
Smaller pets, require minimal care and space which could indicate that the owner has little time or leads a more time-consuming lifestyle.
Author of the survey for the New York Times, Peter B. Gray said that women are generally more discerning than men are in relation to pets.
“They want to know if this person is a good fit, and this may be one way to assess whether someone is telling the truth and is the right fit in a large, anonymous society.”
