The Police and Prisons Civil Rights Union (POPCRU) has said they are very concerned about the budget cuts by South African Police Service.
POPCRU has slammed the reported underspending both within visible policing and detective services in the SAPS.
The last annual report by the SAPS indicated that allocations will be reduced by R15,8 billion this year, and by a further R11,5 billion in the coming year.
This was part of the government’s cost-cutting measures after the Covid-19 pandemic.
