Mo Salah sealed Egypt’s place in the Africa Cup Of Nations (AFCON) quarter-fnal in a nail-biting penalty shoot-out.
The Liverpool forward was ecstatic after his decisive goal meant his country will square off against Morocco on Sunday
After a deadlocked 120-minutes of game-time, Egypt and Ivory Coast went head-to-head into penalties.
While the Ivory Coast faired better with more possession and a higher pass accuracy, the Egyptian side advanced with 5 goals to 4.
Onto the next round of the tournament, it remains to be seen if Mo Salah will face his Liverpool teammate Sadio Mane in the semi-final.
Mane’s home team Senegal face Equatorial Guinea on Sunday night.
Both Mane and Salah are missed in the English Premier League and may miss the FA Cup 4th round against Cardiff City on 6 February.
The 2021 Africa Cup Of Nations was a tragic one, after a stampede claimed the lives of 6 people in Cameroon.
Since the incident CAF has relocated quarter-final fixtures which will now be held at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium.
The organising committee has taken more measures to ensure a similar incident will not occur.
Dr Patrice Motsepe, CAF President extended his condolences to the families affected by the tragedy.
