Some of the best advice one can ever ask for comes from our parents and elder.
Their knowledge and wisdom allow them to see things before they happen, guiding the next generation on a righteous path.
However, there are instances young people don’t listen to their elders and opt to chart their own paths, making their own decisions.
Almost every young person has found themselves saying ‘I wish I listened’, or has heard an elder say to them ‘I told you so’.

Thomas and Skhumba asked Kaya 959 listeners to share some of those moments they found themselves regretting the choices they made, facing challenges they were once warned about.

‘My grandmother told me to watch the company I keep’
One listener shared some of the advice he got from his grandmother before he started working in Johannesburg.
He was told to watch the quality of friends he had, then ignored the advice. He later realised that there was an important reason his grandmother gave him that advice.
‘I was told not to get married’
An anonymous caller shared how she was once told to stay away from marriage. She regretted it when she started ‘seeing flames’ in the marriage.
‘I was warned about my baby daddy’s family’
One caller spoke about how her father warned her about her child’s father’s family. Her father told her that they are an arrogant family that treat other people differently who don’t have money.
She only realised who she was with only on the 7th year with him.
‘I wish I listened when I was told to go back to school’
There is nothing worse than looking at your life and being disappointed at how it turned out; knowing you could have done something to change it all.
One Kaya 959 listener said he regretted not listening to the advice he got, that he should go back to school when he was still younger.
