Leigh Matthews’ family will be contesting the parole application of their daughter’s killer, Donovan Moodley.
Moodley was convicted for the kidnapping and murder of the university student in 2004. He was sentenced to life imprisonment for her murder, 15-years for kidnapping and 10-years for extortion.
Having served just 16-years of his sentence, Moodley will face a parole board on Friday to fight for his freedom.
The Matthews’ family are expected to oppose Moodley’s parole application. Voicing their shock that their daughter’s killer is up for parole, the family feel that Moodley remains unremorseful.
Donovan Moodley has spent most of his time behind bars trying to get his conviction and sentence overturned.
Despite pleading guilty to murder, kidnapping and extortion charges in 2005, the family believes he has not been forthright about what transpired.
His story has changed over the years, but admitted to kidnapping 21-year old Leigh Matthews from the Bond University, Sandton campus on 9 July 2004.

According to reports, the Matthews family paid R50 000 for their daughter’s release, but after the money was paid Leigh Matthews’ naked body was found in Walkerville, south of Johannesburg.
An autopsy report revealed that her body was stored in a cold facility for days before being discarded in a veld.
The family say they have still not found closure because there are so many questions that remain unanswered.
They believe Donovan Moodley had help and that he is protecting the identities of other people involved in their daughter’s death.
Leigh Matthews was shot 4 times, once in the head and 3 more times in her body.
