China has reached a scientific milestone developing an artificial sun. But, video footage of the man-made heat source launching into the sky is a hoax.
Just before the new year Chinese scientists succeeded in creating a nuclear fusion reaction. A process that mimics how stars burn.
To dispel any confusion, nuclear reactors look like a giant steel doughnut.
By fusing hydrogen atoms to produce helium, under high pressures and temperatures, they were able to convert matter into light and heat.
Thus creating the artificial sun which can burn at 185 million degrees Fahrenheit for more than 17 minutes.
While the science is accurate, social media videos claiming that China launched the artificial sun into the sky is not.
The video below has circulated on social media and claims that China successfully launched the artificial sun into the sky.
So much so that US singer, Chris Brown believed the hype.
The video has however, been debunked and is actually footage from a Chinese satellite launch.
