African National Congress NEC Member Nomvula Mokonyane briefed the media on the party’s preparedness to host the birthday celebrations.
The party’s 110th birthday celebration will be happening on Saturday in Limpopo at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Mokonyane said that the ANC is ready to host its members on Saturday.
She also outlined that there will be numerous events leading up to the celebrations in on Saturday.
“The main celebration will be preceded by a number of build-up activities. Officials of the ANC and NEC members are already on the ground, visiting royal houses in the province, meeting with communities, religious leaders and many other sectors of society,” she said.
The ANC national executive committee (NEC) will on Thursday meet to finalise the January 8 statement to be delivered by President Cyril Ramaphosa.

The official programme on Saturday is expected to start at 11.30 am, with Ramaphosa delivering the NEC statement at 1pm.
Mokonyane said due to COVID-19 restrictions, only 2,000 people will be allowed to attend the event at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane.

Mokonyane spoke on how the speech will shed light on the movement’s direction, and also affirmed that it will also respond to the issues affecting the country including alleged attacks on key institutions of the state.
“The ANC shares sentiments expressed by its parliamentary caucus over the fire that engulfed parliament — a national heritage [building] … The ANC is equally saddened by the destruction the fire caused to the infrastructure of the houses of parliament made up of the National Assembly and the National Council of Provinces,” said Mokonyane.
