Advocate Luvuyo Godla is determined to prove Zandile Mafe was wrongfully accused. On Tuesday Mafe appeared in court after being apprehended by police after the fire broke out at Parliament.
The 49-year old is being accused of contravening the explosives act, theft, arson and other charges.
Speaking to media outside the court proceedings Adv. Godla said the circumstances around his client’s arrest did not add up.
“Because someone is found outside a crime scene does not necessarily mean that he has anything to do with the crime,” Godla told media.
Adv Godla is correct you cannot randomly arrest someone on the basis of his/her/their proximity to the crime scene. Where were the police and security personnel at the time when the crime happened? Society must unite and call for the release of Zandile Mafe. #FreeZandileMafe pic.twitter.com/vG7lip2lvW

Godla believes Zandile Mafe is being used as a scapegoat to hide what really happened on the day the fire broke out at Parliament.
Circumstances around the absence of internal security guards have raised suspicion that the arson attack was pre-meditated.
According to the State, Mafe was found with explosives and in possession of stolen laptops, documents and crockery.
Mafe is said to be from Mafikeng in the North West but is a resident of Khayelitsha.
A preliminary report into the fire at Parliament is expected on Friday morning. The case has been postponed to 11 January to give the state time to conclude its investigations.
