South Africa is a country with one of the highest levels of unemployment, so when you get a job, you do whatever you can to keep it.
The problem arises when your 9-5 starts making you miserable. You no longer have time for your family, friends, or the things you are passionate about.

You Are Missing Out On Milestones
Nothing hurts like missing out on your kids’ first steps, a sibling’s graduation, or a friend’s wedding because of work. You end up resenting your job because it has taken so much of your life.
You No Longer Know How To Have Fun
You have gotten so used to working that the idea of having fun is foreign to you. When you get the opportunity to have some fun and relax, you use the time to fulfill your mommy/daddy duties.
You Feel Guilty
Your family has made peace that you are always working, even when you are at home – you no longer have time to do fun things. Your job is key to you, and you don’t want to let your bosses down.
Reactions from Kaya listeners
Uncle T asked The Best T in the city listeners to share what makes them resent their job.
An Uber driver said that his job has completely taken over his life; there is no time for you.
“I’m an Uber driver; it has taken over my life. If there are long weekends when people go to gigs, I see it as an opportunity to make money. You can see that there is no love here,” he said.
Sure BigMan T 👊.

I involved my husband in everything I did for work so he could understand it. The kids were super busy with school and sports so they didn’t notice the absence. We set up home assistance systems to free up family time and we always took holiday breaks.

Remember we are family before we are workers. We remain family after we are workers.#MyJobHasTakenOverMyLife
