Capitec Bank is investigating an incident at one of its branches after a woman stripped naked and went on a rampage.
The banking institution says it is “baffled” by the incident, which took place at a branch in Cape Town.
A clip of the incident went viral on social media this week. It shows the naked woman screaming and throwing things on the floor. She is also seen throwing computers on the ground.
Bank staff and other customers are seen quickly leaving the facility.
“We at Capitec are as perplexed by this matter which happened at the Strand branch, as everyone else. We are trying to get to the bottom of this,” the bank responded on social media.
Capitec says it is looking into the incident.

Twitter users have meanwhile sympathised with the woman.
“There’s nothing funny with the cCpitec video, imagine her kids seeing this video. Also, consider the stress level she may be going through to end up taking off her clothes inside the bank,” one Twitter user wrote.
“That video is disturbing we really need to know what triggered that lady,” a second user tweeted.

Another user commented: “We like claim to be advocates of mental health, and this is exactly what needs our empathy.”

Capitec security guard arrested
In a separate issue, a Capitec security guard has been arrested after he allegedly struck a man at a branch in Tongaat in KwaZulu-Natal.
Jan Gumede says his brother, Nhlakanipho Gumede, went into the branch to query a transaction.
He claims that Nhlakanipho deposited R1000 into an account for groceries for his family in Zululand.
“Only R500 went through so my brother went back to the bank and spoke to the manager about the incident. Instead of helping him, they called the security who came in with an assegai and hit my unarmed brother on his head. I was called by a passerby informing me about the incident and I quickly rushed to find my brother sleeping in a pool of blood outside the door. We took him to the nearby clinic and he was transferred to Addington Hospital where he passed away,” Jan wrote on Facebook.
He says Nhlakanipho was 29. According to Capitec, the guard has been arrested.
“We are urgently investigating the matter and cooperating with the police,” the bank said.
