A 60-year-old was beaten to death with a mannequin during a robbery in Gqeberha on Tuesday.
Police have launched a manhunt for the suspect.
“A suspect allegedly repeatedly assaulted his victim with a mannequin during the early hours of Tuesday morning in Durban Road in Korsten,” says police spokesperson Colonel Priscilla Naidu.
“It is alleged that at about 2:30am, a sleeping vagrant was awoken by the suspect. When the suspect realised that he was not the person he was looking for, he then approached a 60-year-old man who was sitting on stairs and started to assault him with the mannequin. The suspect then ran off with the mannequin,” Naidu says.
The unknown male was severely beaten and later passed away on the scene.
Police are investigating a case of murder. The SAPS is appealing to anyone who may be able to identify the deceased or the whereabouts of the suspect to contact SAPS Gelvandale on 041 402 2018/19 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or their nearest police station.

Gqeberha police are also looking into the murders of three people on Saturday.
It is alleged that all three victims, aged between 25 and 30, and a group of people returned to a funeral house after a burial in Dyantyi Street in Kwazakele.
Naidu says an altercation broke out between the first victim and a person from the group.
“As the victim started running, he was chased by the group and several shots were fired in his direction. Masixole Qwazi fell to the ground, a few houses away and died,” she says.
It is further alleged that the suspects went back to the house and got into a red hijacked Aveo and went in search of the other two victims. The second victim, Sabata Bukani, was fatally wounded in Maronga Street. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
The suspects gunned down the third victim, Thandoxolo Williams, in Daku Road.
Naidu said he also sustained multiple gunshot wounds. All three crime scenes are in close proximity.
“The red Aveo was later found abandoned in Johnson Road in Soweto-On-Sea.While police have implemented the 72-hour activation plan, they are also appealing to anyone who may have any information on the whereabouts of these suspects to contact them,” Naidu says.
