The bodies of 2 women were found in shallow graves in Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality in Port Elizabeth.
Last week Sinthia Williams, a pregnant 16-year old went missing. Her body was found buried in the backyard of her boyfriends grandparents’ home in Kariega.
According to reports Sinthia was stabbed on 11 October by her 19-year old boyfriend. She was reported missing prior to that. Her boyfriend Kyle Barnes handed himself over to police on 20 October after her family became suspicious of him.
Barnes is remanded in custody and faces a murder charge.
Vicki Terblanche is the second woman to have gone missing in the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality. A day after Sinthia’s body was found, Vicki’s boyfriend reported her missing on 21 October.

Her body was found 2-days later in a shallow grave in an open field.
Vicki , 42-years old, was the mother of a 12-year old boy. Her body was discovered after officers noticed suspicious activity at a house. A probe led police to discover Vicki’s body. Post-mortem results have yet to be released to determine the cause of her death.
Acting Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Brigadier Thandiswa Kupiso, expressed her shock and sadness about these incidents.
“It is appalling to note that these women have met their fate in such a vile and despicable manner at the mercy of those they loved and trusted,’’ Brig. Thandiswa Kupiso said
Between 25% to 40% of South African women have experienced sexual and/or physical Intimate Partner Violence in their lifetime. Just under 50% of women reported that they’ve experienced emotional or economic abuse at the hands of their intimate partners.
