An Indian man was convicted to a double life sentence for killing his wife with a cobra. Sooraj Kumar was arrested in May last year after his wife died from a snakebite.
Uthra, his 25-year old wife was found dead in her home with the deadly snake on the bed while she slept.
Her family became suspicious as she was recovering from a Russell’s Viper bite when she was attacked by the cobra. Both snakes are highly venomous.
Investigations proved that Sooraj was behind both attacks on his wife. Police also arrested the man who helped him acquire the snakes and this assisted the case against Sooraj.
Sooraj, 28, from Kerala India, was accused of harassing his wife for more dowry after their wedding. According to her family he was trying to take control of her property and showed no remorse after her death.
He stayed in the room with Uthra after the cobra bit her and went about his morning routine the next day normally.
His phone records showed that he was in touch with a number of snake handlers in the area and watched several snake videos on the internet.
He was convicted for killing his wife with a cobra and poisoning her multiple times for the previous snakebite as well.
