Mashatile has defended his actions explaining what transpired at the church service, he was said this is something very common in church where people share money. It was not an attempt to buy votes.
“It is not true that I was handing out money to the congregants. We attended a church service in Makhado and during the tithe offering I handed money to my team so that I’m not the only one contributing to the offering,” Mashatile said.
He also touched on the issue of outstanding salaries for ANC members.
“The issues of Luthuli House are being addressed, I am sure that by next month people will get paid. We are fundraising, we are getting money. We keep briefing them all the time. It’s not that we leave them in the dark, and when we get money will update them.”

Twitter users have reacted to video:
Paul Mashatile claims during tithe offering while at the church service in Makhado, he then handed money out to his “team” so they themselves would offer their tithe. Question is surely members of his team don’t have cash on their persons because we assume they are working people

I wonder if Paul Mashatile the ANC Treasurer General will receive blessings from the taxpayers or from the voters. Maybe he should have invited some of the employees from loot-holy house to attend the service. pic.twitter.com/kYuHSAseA1

It’s not true that @MYANC Treasurer General @PaulMashatile handed out money to congregants. Our TG gave his team money to make an offering at the church – not even equal to the salary of a single employee of the ANC. Wanna be shop-stewards get facts.
