“It takes a village to raise a child” is an African proverb that means that an entire community of people must provide for and interact positively with children for those children to experience and grow in a safe and healthy environment.
Across the continent the villagers would look out for the children and would ensure they learn all they needed to learn to prosper in society.

But does this still apply in 2021 with all that has changed in modern day society? Would you be okay with your neighbour or friend calling out your teen if they are seen to be doing something wrong?
The Best T In The City asked Kaya 959 listeners if they act or intervene when they see their neighbours or friends child do something wrong.
My sister was like my second mother, when she sends me to the shops and come back late or with the wrong stuff she would beat me, when I played with my friends and came back after 6pm I knew I would gt a beating was tough but we so close today as if those things never happened

#DoesItStillTakeAvillage Yes it will always. We’ve been robbed of our sense community as South Africans because of the adoption of self only mindsets. It is therefore that we need to resort back to it taking a village to ensure the safety and better future for the next generation pic.twitter.com/SDwGRe0OEv

@tboseZA the whole village concept did not work for me. I was betrayed by the concept when I was 8. Respecting adults resulted in me getting raped. I don’t trust the village #DoesItStillTakeAVillage

Bra @tboseZA I think a lot of rules and laws have made it tough for a community to intervene in such matters. As much as you would wish to step in but there’s that fear of “Kanna mang?” Besides ama2000 will tell you where to get off quick. #DoesItStillTakeAVillage
