The Fatherhood Foundation of South Africa says it’s up to other men to model responsible parenthood.
The foundation says the issue of single-parent and child-headed households is a contributing factor to the high teenage pregnancy rates being recorded in Gauteng.
According to the foundation, many young men are not being taught to be accountable and responsible.
Research between April 2020 and March 2021 suggest that over 23 000 girls between the ages of 10 and 19 fell pregnant. A number that does not surprise the foundation.
The figures released by the provincial health department acknowledge those below the age of 16 may be considered statutory rape, if the partner they were with was above age.
