Friday the 13th sends fear up the spines of many individuals for more reasons than one.
It could be that you’re superstitious and believe wholeheartedly that the number 13 only brings darkness and bad luck around.
Your granny imprinted these superstitions in your mind with all of her folk tales and you fuelled these fears with movies like Friday the 13th.
You begin the day by warding off evil spirits from entering your home by tossing salt over your shoulder.
You avoid black cats and cracks on the ground, and you pray that whatever happens goes well.
But what is it about the number 13 and Friday’s that everyone fears?
Why is the number 13 considered to be “bad luck”?
According to history.com the idea that the number 13 is bad luck stems from Western culture.
The West is so superstitious of the number 13 that certain hi-rise buildings skip the number on their floor count and hotels and hospitals avoid using the number for rooms and gates.
What’s so scary about Friday the 13th?
There are many theories behind this one but the most popular is the fall of the Knights Templars in the early hours of the morning of Friday the 13th October 1307.
There may not be any real reasons to fear Friday the 13th but just to be safe, shut the windows, cancel your plans and live to see another day.
After-all the word paraskevidekatriaphobic isn’t something to play with.
It means nothing until you learn it’s a word created to describe someone who fears Friday the 13th.
