It’s been two years since Gail Mabalane opened up about her alopecia diagnosis.
The model and actress started losing big chunks of her hair in 2019.
She has decided to document her hair journey on YouTube so that her followers can learn from her experience.
“This Women’s Month, I’m so excited to finally take you with me on my #HairJourney. So many women have inboxed and emailed and stopped me to ask questions and get advice on this very real issue,” Gail writes on Instagram.
The ‘Blood & Water’ actress says she understands that hair loss is a sensitive topic for women, but it is a necessary discussion.
“I can guarantee you, the day you go bald you will know.”

Empowering women
Hair is a big part of a woman’s identity and Gail hopes her YouTube series will empower women to take control.
“Growing up I have always had good hair, my hair has never been problematic. It was in 2006 when my brother passes away and I decided I just want to do something different,” she says in her first YouTube video.
Gail says that was the first time she got introduced to the pixie cut – a hairstyle that would become a signature look for the star.
Gail was forced to go completely bald in 2019 because of her alopecia diagnosis. Watch her hair journey in the YouTube video below.
