Gauteng police are investigating a viral video that shows police ‘manhandling’ a schoolgirl in the Krugersdorp CBD.
The video shows men dressed as police officers dragging the girl into a unmarked vehicle. She was kicking and screaming as they pulled her by the arms and legs.
“You’re hurting me,” she shouts in the clip.
Many social media users thought the girl was being kidnapped by fake police officers as one of them was wearing what looked like a balaclava.

Schoolgirl allegedly refused to wear mask
Police officials have confirmed that the men seen in the video are police officers.
“The management of the SAPS in Gauteng have noted with concern, a video clip circulating on various social media platforms, depicting police members manhandling a schoolgirl in uniform.
“At this stage, it has been established that the 18-year-old female learner was indeed taken to the Krugersdorp police station and subsequently released on the same day, unharmed, into the care of her mother,” Colonel Noxolo Kweza said in a statement.

Kweza says an urgent departmental investigation has been sanctioned to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.
“To this end, the members captured on the video have been identified and the departmental investigation is underway. We can confirm that the vehicle captured on the video is a state vehicle and that the members were on duty conducting routine patrols at the time of the incident.”
The schoolgirl was taken into custody after she allegedly refused to wear a mask.
