The murder of Sifiso Telile, a 17-year in Chatsworth, Durban has once again highlighted the racial tensions between Indians and black communities in Durban and surrounding areas.
According to Newzroom Afrika, Sifiso was murdered on 31 July at night, allegedly by the father of his Indian girlfriend.
Sifiso’s brutal murder has caused outrage after he was stabbed with a knife and beaten with a pik.
Colonel Thembeke Mbele spoke to Newzroom Afrika’s Xoli Mngambi and confirmed that two suspects have since been arrested, a 17-year old and a 61-year old man.
The two suspects will apply for a bail application on Friday 06 August.
Initial investigations suggest that Sifiso Telile was in a relationship with a 16-year old Indian girl in Chatsworth whose mother was aware of her relationship.
However, her step-father did not approve of the teenagers’ relationship and together with the 17-year old suspect accosted Sifiso while the young couple were at a friend’s house.
Sifiso’s family is not happy with the manner in which police in Chatsworth have handled the case, and the family has accused police of tampering with the statements of witnesses, Sifiso’s girlfriend and his mother.
Sifiso’s aunt Tulile Telile is demanding justice for his murder.
