Coined by playwright, Lorraine Hansberry and later adapted into song by the priestess of soul, Nina Simone; ‘To be young, gifted and black’ has served as part affirmation and part anthem for many a black revolutionary youth since the 70s. In this podcast, the idea of being young, gifted and black is explored through the lens of two acclaimed women, namely Sinethemba Nombala Makanya and Ntombenhle Shezi.

Sinethemba Nombala Makanya
The former is a traditional healer and mental health activist who premises her practice in the world of academia, whilst the latter is a thoroughbred storyteller. Both these women speak about their personal and professional trajectories in South Africa. Makanya and Shezi are Mail & Guardian 200 Young South African listers for 2018.
