The Volvo XC90 is a beast that is in a class of its own designed with premium Swedish elegance, which boasts “I am different and opulent.”
A Volvo dealership in West Rand lent Kaya Motoring the XC90 for two days and I truly enjoyed every second of reviewing the car. It is undoubtedly one of Sweden’s popular exports beside Timber and chemical goods. Our test car was the R-Design model, which is Volvo’s premium sports package.
One of my favorite features was the autopilot, which is basically cruise control that went to a private school. Volvo’s biggest luxury SUV offers to a seating for seven, five, or four, depending on seating configuration. Three distinct powertrains are available, all with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine and 8-speed automatic transmission. In the base XC90 T5, the engine is turbocharged, making 250 horsepower and 258 pound-feet of torque.
Inside is what I imagine it would be like to visit a premium Vodka bar in Sweden. There are many soft-touch materials, a great deal of natural light entering the cabin and not a bad quality surface to be seen or felt.
The layout is simple. There are a few buttons as possible with most of your attention being directed towards the nine-inch portrait-mounted centre infotainment screen, which features navigation, media, Internet/application, Bluetooth, radio and climate control functionality. The rest of the fit and finish is superb with great build quality, seriously comfortable seats and a very modern touches.
I honestly don’t think their infotainment system is quite as slick as the one you will find on the Audi Q7 however it has an amazing sound system, which is engineered by Bowers& Wilkins.
