Peermont Hotels Casinos and Resorts have confirmed the incident in which a fire engulfed the Mmabatho Palms Hotel, casino and resort. The fire broke out in the early hours of Wednesday morning and at this stage the cause of the blaze is unknown.
Investigations are however underway to determine what transpired and the extent of the damage is yet to be assessed.
Newly-appointed North West premier, Bushy Maape, says damage to Mmabatho Palms Hotel in Mahikeng is a great loss to the province.
According to reports Agriculture, Rural Development and Land Reform Deputy Minister Zoleka Capa were one of the guests at the hotel at the time of the incident.

The resort remains closed to the public until further notice and was one of the oldest casino resorts in South Africa.

Further reports indicate that North west firefighters are now battling a blaze that broke out at the Christiana Provincial Hospital.
