Goitseona Diale is a 23-year-old pilot hailing from Rustenburg in a small village near Phokeng.
His grandfather had a farm near Pilanesburg airport which is not far from Sun City.
“That was my first encounter with airplanes,” Goitseona tells My Top 10 at 10 with Tbose.
“I used to sit behind the bakkie and watch all those airplanes for the private clients who were going to land in Sun City.
At the time, he never thought in his wildest dreams that he would fly an airplane.
It was in high school that he started flirting with the idea of becoming a pilot one day.
“I went to Lebone, the second college of the Royal Bafokeng and that school is the epitome of excellence. From the first day, you walk in you are told your dreams are not here, they are higher than where you want to be.
“The moment I told my teachers I wanted to get into aviation, they held it against me. I didn’t have an opportunity to fail.”
Goitsaone and his friend started an aviation club to further enhance their knowledge about the industry
“We drafted a proposal for an aviation club and asked the s school to support us by buying us magazines, and buying these films, and books.
“We didn’t mind holding the sessions on your own. Every. single Friday we’d watch an aviation film or documentary. Our clun grew to 40.”
Getting into aviation school, Goitsaone didn’t know what to expect as the setting was completely different to what he had been accustomed to.
His instructor, who also hails from Rusternburg pushed him from the get-go and made sure he didn’t slack.
