Five-time champion Venus Williams opened her 90th Grand Slam with an opening win against Mihaela Buzarnescu.
The 41-year-old American entered her 23rd Wimbledon singles draw by beating Romanian Buzarnescu 7-5 4-6 6-3.
The 111th ranked Williams was playing in her 10th match this season and the win takes her into the 2nd round where she plays Tunisia’s 21st seed Ons Jabeur.
Former world number one Williams first appeared at Wimbledon in 1997.
This Tuesday is the second day of Wimbledon and Venus’ sister Serena takes on Aliaksandra Sasnovich in the final match of the day.
Venus smashed a whopping 10 aces to defeat her opponent.
