LISTEN TO THE FULL CONVERSATION HERE:
Maile said the book is a compilation of thought-provoking conversations with prominent South Africans about the need for the youth to find their places at decision-making tables.
In the book he has conversations with DJ Oskido, Fasiha Hassan, Tembeka Ngcukaitobi, Mary Metcalfe, Sydney Mufamadi, Ayakha Melithafa and Tshidizi Marwala.
He shared a bit about his years in politics and how young people are still a very big force in the country, and the importance of cultivating their role in bringing change to South Africa.
He also spoke about why it is important to critically assess the movement by adding a your own voice.
“There’s no perfect organisation, so you can’t pretend like when you are in an organisation that it is perfect and can’t do wrong things. You must be prepared.
“It was Peter Mokaba who said that the Youth League must adapt or die, we have seen the Youth League couldn’t adapt, and is dead now. Even when you want to be relevant as an organisation you must have these internal discussion. The book was not intended to deal with politics but the role of politics in our history can not be ignored.” said Maile.
