eHailing service Uber South Africa is facing a class-action legal battle which was filed by the company’s own drivers.
The matter will be taken to the Johannesburg Labour Court against Uber BV and Uber SA.
The matter comes after the drivers raised concerns about the lack of payment from the company for overtime and holiday pay.
The legal matter comes just days after a decision by the UK Supreme Court that Uber drivers should be legally classified as workers rather than independent contractors.
As a result of this ruling, all drivers are entitled to similar benefits.
Zanele Mbuyisa is with Mbuyisa Moleele Attorneys, which is the firm representing the drivers in the matter.
