Support for Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari’s decision to suspend Twitter in the country has come from an unsurprising source, former Unites States President Donald Trump.
In a statement on Tuesday 8 June Trump said: “Congratulations to the country of Nigeria, who just banned Twitter because they banned their president.” He urged other countries to ban Twitter and Facebook. “Who are they to dictate good and evil, if they themselves are evil?” Trump added in his statement.
He went on to say that he should have banned Facebook while he was in the White House, but Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg “kept calling me and coming to the White House for dinner telling me how great I was”.
Trump’s Facebook and Twitter accounts were suspended by both Twitter and Facebook after his supporters stormed the US Capitol in protest against Trump losing the US election.
