Over the last two years, there are many places across the world with rich historical significance that had to close. In SA, it was the Apartheid Museum in May 2021, and later the historic Liliesleaf Farm museum, which was a safe house of political activists during apartheid.

Thomas and Skhumba asked Kaya 959 listeners to rate how much of South Africa’s history do they think they know.
Kaya 959 listeners rated themselves and also weigh in on the importance of continually enriching ourselves with knowledge of our country’s history.
One Kaya 959 listener asked why aren’t South Africans giving more credit to the women that fought for injustices in our country.
She also said that she is very disappointed with how her child is still learning about German mass-murder Hilter.
One listener says our stories were never fully told. That when many South Africans were taught history growing up they learned things that had nothing to do with the heroes and heroines, it was all snippets.
One listener shared how she feels the beautiful story of the Shembe Church is not told enough in South African history books.
One listener shared how she grew up in the same street as Chris Hani. She shared how she grew to know him as more of a family man than a politician.
Hani was the leader of the South African Communist Party and chief of staff of uMkhonto we Sizwe, the armed wing of the African National Congress.

1.2 Parliament assented to POPIA on 19 November 2013. The commencement date of section 1, Part A of Chapter 5, section 112 and section 113 was 11 April 2014. The commencement date of the other sections was 1 July 2020 (with the exception of section 110 and 114(4). The President of South Africa has proclaimed the POPI commencement date to be 1 July 2020.
1.3. “Processing” means the creation, generation, communication, storage, destruction of personal information as more fully defined in the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013.
