Thembisa Mdoda-Nxumalo says her first marriage doesn’t even count and she doesn’t expect people to recognise it as well.
The media personality made the comments while speaking at a recent wedding in Umtata, Eastern Cape.
Thembisa was previously married to actor Atandwa Kani. The pair had a messy split in 2015. While Thembisa did not mention any names in her speech, many believed she was throwing shade at Atandwa.
Thembisa shared some words of wisdom about marriage with wedding guests.
“I don’t recognise my first marriage… I only learned this important lesson in my second marriage, that whenever you fight with someone you love, don’t ever forget the love that brought you together,” the Daily Sun quoted her as saying.
Thembisa added that couples should always be respectful.
TV host, Kayise Nolufefe Ngqula, agreed with Thembisa’s marriage advice.
“This is how you. I know you … and yes sis it’s my motto too. Let’s “fight in love and with love”. Thank you for sharing,” she commented.

Mrs Nxumalo is happily married
Thembisa and her current husband are happily married. The couple is notoriously private about their relationship.
Thembisa does, however, sing his praises on social media from time to time.
She praised her husband in August for supporting her after she was diagnosed with COVID-19. The star’s condition got so bad that she said she was “fighting for dear life“.
But her husband was with her every step of the way.
“A constant reminder of the incredible human I married. Right there by my side every day, when I was in hospital. Regardless of all the 1000002 things he had to. I can’t begin to explain what it was like not being able to see my babies but seeing his face kept me going,” she wrote on Instagram.
Thembisa says he constantly reminds her that everything will be okay.
“You are not only the love of my life but my peace too. I wish I could whisk you away on a special vacay so you can breathe easy. Lie on a hammock and just relax. You deserve that peace of mind.”
