Themba Makamo is a Katlehong-born businessman and founder of one of the fastest-growing sneaker brands in SA, Vaya footwear.
This morning, he was a guest on my top 10 at 10 with Tbose.
During the interview, Themba was asked what makes his brand special as we already have two leading sneakers in Bathu and Drip footwear.
“When I was growing up, there would be a Nike that I wanted. There would be an Adidas that I wanted and then there would be a Reebok or a Puma. I wasn’t loyal to one brand. I was really into whatever sneaker it was,” he explained.
“When I look at the market, we have to present all those alternatives. If it’s only just Bathu and Drip, it means if you bought them then you have to chill.”
Makamo believes that the market is ready for another sneaker.
“let’s introduce the third one which is Vaya and hopefully it will be the first one there. I looked at it from that perspective that in the market there’s an opportunity for another sneaker because people are not loyal to just one brand,” he added.
He wants to share his success and see everyone do well.
“I’m the type of person that likes to see other people succeed. And I put in a lot of effort in helping someone else build themselves,” he shared in part.
