The concept of changing perception is one that many artists dream of, tapping into an alternate reality where anything is possible. What happened this past Saturday at FNB stadium was nothing short of amazing, 68 000 South African supporting a dream, a movement, an ideal world where we rally behind our artists. Refiloe ‘Cassper Nyovest’ Phoolo inspired many South Africans to believe in their dreams and keep pushing the boundaries to what is possible.
With the whole country, we saw a dream of filling the biggest stadium in Africa, from conception to its fruition. The night was an incredible eye-opener for many artists and has shifted the music industry forever.
Entrepreneurship
The business side of this story is also one that should be commended. You see here a businessman/artist investing his own money for this dream, to an extent where he almost sells his cars to make it happen. You see an artist that shows it’s possible to be your own boss, make your own rules and achieve incredible historic goals.
The concert encouraged many to no longer seek outside themselves for validation, and not look down on our own artists while we praise international artists.
Support from the music industry
The line up on the day represented unity, it wasn’t just a South African Hip-hop event, it was a fusion of everything great about our music. A celebration of our sound by included Destruction Boyz, Dj Tira, Babes Wodumo & Mampintsa, A Reece, Kwesta, HHP, Thasman, Riky Rick, YoungstaCPT, Shimza and the Family Tree stable.
The Production
A reported R15 million invested in a high caliber production was evident on the night, with the aesthetics being nothing short of greatness. The graphics, dancers, concept, pre-show marketing, two giant lions on stage, and the absolute command of the crowd were nothing short of impressive. The electrifying performances made it a complete experience.
The Future
This event made attending stadium events more enjoyable, the anticipation of being part of history, the almost teary moment when a full stadium is belting out a popular ballad while waving their flashlights was nothing short of memorable. There are many stadia across the continent to be filled, businesses to be started, more fearless young people who will stop at nothing to make their dreams come through. For the african child this was simply another glowing illustration that the world is your oyster, the sky is the limit and more. The #FillUpFNB mega concert has started a revolution.
