The commission of inquiry into taxi violence in Gauteng has concluded that unregulated associations run the sector.
MEC for Gauteng Roads and Transport Jacob Mamabolo released the findings into the increase of taxi violence and deaths within the sector.
According to the report, prosecutors were forced to withdraw charges due to a lack of cooperation by investigating officers.
The commission recommends regular operations targeting hitmen hideouts, which SAPS should conduct.
SAPS HR Division will need to consider specific training for officers responsible for investigating taxi violent-related cases.
Mamabolo reiterated the new Taxi Violence Unit should move with speed to conclude all 505 outstanding case dockets which are still open due to improper investigations.
