Eskom has issued a statement alerting South Africans that the possibility of Stage 2 loadshedding remains high unless the public reduces electricity consumption.
The power utility remains severely constrained as the shortage of generation capacity persists. The heavy strain on the power grid caused by breakdowns to several units and high winter demand could mean Stage 2 loadshedding resumes from Sunday evening.
While no loadshedding is anticipated at this point, Eskom could be forced to implement Stage 1 or, if necessary Stage 2 loadshedding between 17h00 and 22h00pm this evening.
Breakdowns currently total 14 756 KW of capacity, while another 3, 330 MW is unavailable due to planned maintenance.
Eskom will communicate should the situation improve or change.
