Real Madrid and German legend Toni Kroos has announced his retirement from the beautiful game at the age of 34.
Toni Kroos’ decision comes as a shock, as modern-day footballers tend to play into their late 30s. Cristiano Ronaldo is still banging goals in the Saudi Pro League at the age of 39.
Kroos expressed his deep gratitude for the success he achieved during his time at Real Madrid.
“I would particularly like to thank the president, Florentino Pérez, the club and everyone who welcomed me with an open heart and trusted in me. But first and foremost, I would like to thank you, dear Madridistas, for your affection and your love from the first day until the last.”
The 34-year-old firmly believes that the timing is right for him to retire, stating:
“I am happy and proud, that in my mind and in my heart, I found the right timing for my decision. My ambition was always to finish my career at the peak of my performance levels. From now on there is only one thought in my mind and nothing will change that: a por la 15!!! HALA MADRID Y NADA MAS!”
The 34-year-old will play two more games for Real Madrid and represent Germany in the Euros before hanging up his boots.
