German soccer team Borussia Dortmund knocked Mamelodi Sundowns off the top of Group F with a thrilling 4-3 win in a FIFA Club World Cup match on Saturday.
Sundowns took the lead when PSL top scorer Lucas Ribeiro scored a brilliant goal, beating several Dortmund defenders with his dribbling skills.
However, after Masandawana’s promising start, Dortmund showed their class and dominated the game.
By halftime, Sundowns were trailing 3-1.
In the second half, Sundowns fought back bravely, but Dortmund held their ground and increased their lead to 4-1 when Khuliso Mudau scored an own goal.
The “Brazilians” didn’t give up, and Iqraam Rayners scored his second goal of the tournament, making it 4-2. The team pushed forward, and with some tactical substitutions, they managed to reduce the deficit further. Super-sub Lebo Mothiba scored, making the final score 4-3.
Mamelodi Sundowns congratulated the boys on their Instagram page, saying that though they lost, they fought a hard battle.
Even though the South African team lost, fans have been pouring in praises, with some describing their performance as peak South African football.
Dortmund’s win means they have taken the top spot in Group F.
