Senegal has won their very first Africa Cup of Nations after 120 minutes of incredible football.
This was the third time Senegal affectionately known as the ‘Lions of Teranga’ attempted to win the finals.
This time around they beat Egypt in a 4-2 penalty shootout.

Senegal’s two Nations Cup final defeats came in 2002 and 2019.
Egypt which is currently licking its wounds has a chance to regroup and get revenge in the coming weeks. Their defeat in the finals meant they missed out on a record-extending eighth continental crown.

The two sides will be meeting again next month in a two-legged play-off for a spot at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
It’s a National Public Holiday
Senegal’s President Macky Sall declared Monday a public holiday to celebrate the national football team’s first-ever African Cup of Nations crown following their victory against Egypt.
