Samuel Eto’o says he doesn’t know why “Bafana Bafana have constantly underperformed at the Africa Cup Of Nations”
Samuel Eto’o, a former striker for Barcelona and Cameroon, is one of the rare individuals who made the move from the field to the head of a national football federation.
With 18 goals in all, Eto’o is the competition’s top scorer and a two-time Afcon champion with the Indomitable Lions.
Eto’o is the president of the Cameroon Football Federation and has seen his country participate in the 2022 Fifa World Cup and now qualified for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Eto’o expressed his surprise that Bafana is not doing better in the Africa Cup of Nations competitions in an interview with Agence France-Presse (AFP), a French international news agency.
“I am baffled as to why Bafana Bafana have constantly underperformed at the Africa Cup Of Nations. The South Africa League (PSL) is well organised and one of the best in Africa so I do not understand why The National Team is not good”
“Football officials need to sit down and plan how to take Bafana to another level and make it the best national team in Africa. Given the strength of the national league, that is possible,”

Bafana Bafana’s AFCON 2024 journey in Group E
The 20,000-seat Amadou Gon Coulibaly Stadium in the Northern city of Korhogo will host all of Bafana’s Group E games.
The team is aiming to accumulate enough points against Mali, Namibia, and Tunisia to advance to the round of 16.
In 2019, Bafana triumphed over Mali in a friendly match at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Port Elizabeth thanks to goals from Zwane and a penalty from Dean Furman. Molefi Ntseki’s team won 2-1.
